Innovative medtech company scoops world renowned design award for smart home testing device
Medtech company Bloom Diagnostics recognised for unique device aesthetics and functionality at Red Dot Awards 2021
VIENNA: Innovative medtech company Bloom Diagnostics has today announced they have been awarded the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2021 for the functionality and aesthetics of their ground-breaking Bloom Lab device. The Red Dot Awards are one of the world’s most sought after seals for design excellence. Chosen by a panel of over 50 international design experts, winners are handpicked for their high quality design. The company was awarded a Red Dot award alongside major brands including Sony, Bose, Google, and Philips. Bloom Diagnostics is an innovative medtech company that has developed a smart diagnostic system for a wide range of medical conditions.
The Bloom System aims to provide users with access to a range of bluetooth powered at-home smart tests, thereby relieving pressure on GPs and healthcare systems already under strain since the pandemic swept the world. Bloom Diagnostics’ Bloom Lab works by consumers placing pin-sized blood samples onto test strips. Once uploaded into the Bloom Lab, specific biomarkers are captured and analyzed in an efficient manner.
In what has become a challenging time for the healthcare industry, Bloom Diagnostics aims to make healthcare more accessible with home blood testing kits that can be accessed from anywhere; whether at home, in an office or even on holidays. Currently, the Bloom Lab is approved for professional use to test for COVID-19 antibodies, and will soon offer an at-home ferritin test that can help detect iron deficiency as well as an at-home AMH (Anti-Müllerian hormone) test which will provide important information for women about their egg cell reserve.
The win is hugely significant for Bloom Diagnostics as they rollout their bluetooth powered home testing system in pharmacies globally and look to sell them directly to consumers. The Bloom Lab can be seen in the online exhibition on the Red Dot website from 21 June 2021, marking the beginning of the Red Dot Design Week, where this year’s award winners will be celebrated online.
From 22 June 2021, the Bloom Lab will also be included in the exhibition “Design on Stage” in the Red Dot Design Museum Essen alongside the other award-winning products. Restrictions permitting, visitors to the museum will get to experience the quality of the designs in person, in a space that features contemporary design solutions and historical industrial architecture. The Red Dot Design Yearbook 2021/2022 comes out in August. The publication provides a comprehensive overview of the state of the art and trends in product design.
Speaking on the award, Bloom Diagnostics Chief Product Officer Tom Kupper said:
“Since the inception of Bloom Diagnostics we have been working to take something as complex as medical diagnostics and make it as accessible as an iPhone. Putting the user front and center is paramount for everything we do. It's part of our DNA. Seeing this commitment honoured by RedDot is gratifying."
