Your medical history – symptoms, current and past illnesses, medications, lifestyle, and family illnesses – provide the basis for this interpretation. Your data will be encrypted and protected. Applying research done by our medical team and established healthcare guidelines, the Bloom App can help you to read and understand your own test results.

Ferritin is a protein that stores iron in your body. Iron, in turn, is needed to produce healthy red blood cells, which carry oxygen around the body. Your body cannot produce iron itself and must therefore gain it from your diet.

In case of iron deficiency, red blood cells are unable to deliver enough oxygen, which can lead to anemia, among other issues. An excess of iron is also dangerous as it can lead to tissue damage and even organ failure. Low ferritin levels are a good indicator of iron deficiency and iron deficiency anemia, while high ferritin levels can indicate iron overload.
